Robert Young
Robert Young
has been an educator since 1973.
He has worked as a classroom teacher in three different
states, and has taught second through eighth grade.
Currently, he works as a curriculum and staff development
specialist at the Lane Education Service District in Eugene,
Oregon. In this
position, Robert provides language arts support to K-12 teachers
in 16 school districts through workshops, technical
consultations, and model lessons.
Robert also
works as an author. He
writes nonfiction for children, and has had 20 books published.
His latest, Passage: A dog’s journey west with Lewis and Clark, is an
interactive book in journal format. Robert’s
books have won numerous honors, including NCSS/CBC Notable
Children’s Social Studies Trade Book, IRA/CBC Children’s
Choice, and the Public Library Association’s Lifetime Learning
Award. He enjoys
traveling to schools around the country as a visiting
author.
Robert’s
presentations reflect his love of writing, his experience as an
author, and his strong belief that every student can write.
He engages participants by through the use of activities,
humor, and movement. Teachers
leave with ideas, strategies, and activities they can use
immediately in their classrooms to help students become better
writers.
